GREAT SOUTHWEST TRACK AND FIELD CLASSIC
WELCOME
FEATURING THE TOP HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES IN THE COUNTRY
The Great Southwest Track & field Classic is one of the top post-season prep track and field invitational in the nation, founded to provide a window of opportunity for coaches and scouts to see outstanding talent.
Originally established as a post-season invitational for Arizona, New Mexico and Texas in 1930, organizers were forced to close the meet in 1933, due to the Great Depression. In 1978, a band of coaches and track officials resurrected the meet when they invited 125 athletes from Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The meet grew to seven states in the southwest region while still held in Arizona.
The meet relocated to New Mexico in 2001 keeping the same format that was used in Arizona. In 2002 the meet has grown to include more than 600 athletes from many states including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, procuring outstanding athletes with a top-notch field of competition,
